Which genres survive the two-minute session
Mobile play is fragmented by nature. You get interrupted, you put the phone down, you come back an hour later. Some genres handle that gracefully and some fall apart the moment you look away.
Puzzles are the obvious champions. Something like a good sliding-tile game holds its state perfectly and picks right back up. Arcade racers with short tracks are almost as good — a single race fits in a gap and asks nothing more.
RPGs are trickier. The best ones, like a well-designed turn-based saga, save cleanly and let you dip in for one battle. The worst ones punish you for stepping away mid-dungeon. Strategy games live or die by whether they let you pause.
My rule of thumb: if a game gets stressed when you close it, it is not built for the way most of us actually play on a phone. The games that thrive are the ones that shrug and wait for you.
